The New York Knicks appear committed to former Notre Dame Fighting Irish point guard and 2015 NBA Draft pick Jerian Grant as the team's point guard of the future, but management has made it clear that they're looking to supplement Grant and current #1 point guard option Jose Calderon with another veteran option in the very near future.
The Knicks have already expressed interest in trading for Jamal Crawford as they look for guard #3, but as Rob Dire of Today's Fastbreak sees it, New York could have a chance at Detroit Pistons guard Brandon Jennings if they stay patient.
"Coming off a ruptured Achilles injury from back in January, the Pistons got used to life without him in Detroit last season," Dire wrote recently. "They traded for Reggie Jackson at the deadline and committed to him long term this offseason with a five-year deal worth $80 million. Playing the same position, the writing is on the wall for Jennings, who’d previously worn out his welcome in Milwaukee."
Jennings said recently that he's fine coming off the bench with Jackson as the starter, but Pistons head coach and decision-maker Stan Van Gundy could easily deem him as expendable -- especially with both Jackson and Jennings functioning as ball-dominant point guards for the Pistons.
