The New York Knicks have had a solid 2015 NBA free agency run so far despite not landing any of the "marquee" names at the top of the board. However, the team is far from done as the first weekend of the open market draws to a close. Here's our Knicks Free Agency Rumors Roundup For July 5th.
Knicks Looking To Retain Several Pieces
According to a New York Post report, the Knicks are "trying to find a way to retain center Jason Smith and combo guard Alexey Shved, but that may not be possible if they get offers higher than $2.8 million. Jackson plans to re-sign Lou Amundson and Lance Thomas for the vet’s minimum. Mark Bartelstein, agent for Smith and Amundson, said the Knicks have kept “closely connected’’ on both issues."
ESPN's Ian Begley adds that GM Steve Mills and president Phil Jackson have maintained open dialogue with Jason Smith's representatives about bringing him back for 2015-16.
Quincy Acy To Orlando?
After completing a sign-and-trade with the Knicks which will send F/C Kyle O'Quinn to New York, the Orlando Magic are reportedly targeting Knicks free agent forward Quincy Acy to fill O'Quinn's vacated spot in the rotation.
Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders reports that the Magic "like him a lot," but they'll have to do battle with a host of other reported suitors including the San Antonio Spurs, New Orleans Pelicans and Sacramento Kings.
David Lee Reunion In The Works?
Per Marc Berman of the New York Post, "Golden State has explored dealing ex-Knicks power forward David Lee, who wants to play in New York and has one year and $15.5 million left on his pact. According to a source, this scenario has been discussed among the parties."
The one wrinkle here is that the Warriors are adamant about not receiving any guaranteed salary commitments back in return for Lee, who was shuffled to the back of the team's rotation in 2014-15 in favor of breakout star Draymond Green.
