Three prominent members of the New York Knicks front office attended Excel agency's Pro Day yesterday in order to watch Villanova forward Mikal Bridges work out, according to ESPN's Ian Begley.
Sources: Knicks president Steve Mills, GM Scott Perry and director of scouting Kristian Petesic are at the Excel agency's Pro Day in NYC where Villanova's Mikal Bridges and other players who have signed with the agency are working out. All NBA teams likely have representation at the Excel Pro Day. But it's potentially noteworthy that Mills, Perry and Petesic were on hand to watch Bridges and other Excel players because many in the organization see Bridges as a potential option for New York, which has the ninth overall selection in the draft.
Earlier this week, it was reported that the Knicks have "the hots" for Oklahoma point guard Trae Young. However, it's unlikely that Young is still on the board when the Knicks pick and New York is believed to be focused on picking a small forward at No. 9 and are targeting Bridges.
He is very quick for someone who is 6-foot-7, and with a wingspan over seven feet, he has tremendous upside as the ultimate 3-and-D prospect. While his offensive game improved during his junior year, he will be more of a shooter at the NBA level as he hasn't proven he can consistently create his own shot.
Bridges is expected to be available, too, as the Knicks are projected to take him with the No. 9 overall pick in our post-combine mock draft. He averaged 17.7 points with 5.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.
