The New York Knicks face another crucial offseason as they try to build a playoff team that can become a contender, and they have their sights set on several moves to help them get there. The draft is just one small part of that, and with it being just days away, they're making their final preparations. Here's all the latest Knicks draft news and rumors you need to know:
Knicks to trade with Sixers for first-round pick?
The Knicks lack a draft pick this year, but they're trying to acquire a first-round pick. NJ.com reports the Knicks could swing a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, who hold the No. 24 and No. 26 picks this year, and could deal one of them for a veteran or a future pick.
The Sixers are slated to pick first, 24th and 26th in the NBA Draft set for June 23 and according to report by Jason Parker of FanSided, the Knicks could be looking to make their way into the first round by acquiring one of the Sixers' later first-round picks:
The Knicks plan to acquire a pick in June's draft. The best-case scenario would probably be a late first-round pick but second-round is more likely. The club has shown interest in several players in recent weeks.
The Sixers have taken a new direction in their rebuild after Sam Hinkie resigned as general manager and Colangelo has a propensity for wheeling and dealing, so a move to land an established veteran from the Knicks would not be out of the question by any means.
Knicks targeting Selden, Ferrell with pick?
New York's reasoning for wanting to trade into the draft is because they've identified a pair of prospects they're targeting in Kansas SG Wayne Selden and Indiana PG Yogi Ferrell, according to ESPN's Ian Begley.
The Knicks plan to acquire a pick in June’s draft. The best-case scenario would probably be a late first-round pick but second-round is more likely.
The club has shown interest in several players in recent weeks, including Indiana guard Yogi Ferrell, who has a workout scheduled with the club next month. New York also interviewed Kansas guard Wayne Selden at the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago and has expressed interest in him as the draft approaches, according to league sources.
Selden, a 6-6 guard, would fit the mold of the big guards Phil Jackson used in his Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Laker teams. Ferrell, a 6-0 guard, has impressed in workouts, according to sources, and was the only point guard last season to average 17 PPG, 5.5 assists and shoot at least 40% from 3.
