The New York Knicks are targeting backcourt help with the No. 8 pick in the draft, and have already been linked to Frank Ntilinkina, Dennis Smith Jr. and have expressed interest in Donovan Mitchell.
Those three are all point guards (New York would convert Mitchell to the position), but all three appear to be behind Kentucky's Malik Monk on their draft board, according to Moke Hamilton of Basketball Insiders.
Josh Jackson and Jayson Tatum will land with the Suns and Magic, while Dennis Smith likely lands in New York. I have been told that the Knicks are also high on Monk, but the Sixers could spoil those plans if they do indeed select him. If they go another way, it’s possible Monk could slip to the Knicks at eighth.
Monk is undersized as a shooting guard at 6-foot-3 (the same size as Mitchell) and the Knicks may be interested in also converting him to point guard. However, there's a real possibility that Monk won't be available when New York comes on the clock.
Philadelphia is very interested in Monk, and they may trade back with the Kings to draft him at No. 5 - if they don't reach for him at No. 3.
Monk averaged 19.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game this past season.
