A week after reports mentioned that the New York Knicks were a potential suitor for Beno Udrih, they officially signed the player to a one-year contract. Udrih will earn the veteran's minimum, signing a deal worth $1.2 million.
Udrih provides good value, and was earning $7 million just last year. This one-year deal gives Udrih flexibility, since he'll be a free agent again next summer, and he could receive a higher offer if he plays well enough this season. According to rumors earlier this summer, Udrih almost left the NBA to play in Europe, and the opportunity to stay in the league and play for a winning team was too much for him to pass up.
Other teams that showed interest in Udrih were the San Antonio Spurs and the Memphis Grizzlies. With this move, the Knicks have almost completely solidified their roster. Udrih brings their roster to 14, and only one spot remains. According to ESPN NBA analyst Jared Zwerling, the Knicks are looking for a big man to fill out their final roster spot.
At point guard, the Knicks will have Raymond Felton and Pablo Prigioni to go along with Udrih. Udrih will definitely be a nice addition to the team on offense - He averages 9.1 points per game, along with 2.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists.
Welcome to the Knicks, Beno!
