Just hours after officially becoming a free agent and several days after the rumors started swirling, Metta World Peace has agreed to a two-year deal with the New York Knickerbockers, as first reported by Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Los Angeles Lakers chose to use the amnesty provision of World Peace late last week, freeing $7.9 million they owed him in cap space. They will still have to pay World Peace that money, but it will not count against them when calculating their payroll for salary cap or luxury tax purposes.
No team claimed World Peace off waivers after he was amnestied, leaving him free to negotiate with the rest of the league. World Peace had said he was contemplating retirement, or playing in the Arena Football League, or playing in China (it's Metta, who knows), but it appears he'll be taking his 12.4 points per game to Broadway.
