The New York Knicks committed themselves to tanking this season by shipping shooting guards J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert to the Cleveland Cavaliers as part of a three-team deal on Monday night, but President of Basketball Operations Phil Jackson isn’t done making moves. Here’s the latest rumors surrounding the Knicks:
AMARE STOUDEMIRE STAYING PUT
The Knicks are open to dealing almost everyone on their roster, but apparently Stoudemire is not one of them. He's making $23.41 million in the final year of his deal, but has been hampered by his chronic knee injuries. Stoudemire has averaged 13.1 ppg and 7.4 rpg in 28 games this season. Jackson reportedly likes Stoudemire's offensive game and thinks he could stick around for the future, but no decision has been made on if they'll pursue him in free agency or not.
KNICKS ACTIVELY SHOPPING ANDREA BARGNANI & JOSE CALDERON
New York is actively trying to trade point guard Jose Calderon and center Andrea Bargnani as part of their ongoing roster clear-out, according to ESPN's Marc Stein and Ian Begley.
There are not shortage of suitors for Calderon, as many teams would like to add a veteran pass-first point guard. However, the two years left on his contract after this season, worth $15.1 million, could make it tough for the Knicks to trade him.
As for Bargnani, the Knicks will waive him if they can't find a trade partner for him. Bargnani has played for just 22 minutes this entire season due to various injuries, which would make a trade unlikely unless his $11.5 million expiring contract helps a team financially.
