The New York Knicks finished the season with the second-worst record in NBA, and both fans and the front office are hoping to turn the franchise around as quickly as possible. This offseason will be very important for the Knicks’ future, so what questions do they have to answer?
1) Can they sign a marquee free agent?
New York has been desperately searching for a superstar they can pair with Carmelo Anthony, but they haven’t been able to sign one. There are several top players in this year’s free agency class that are considering the Knicks, and landing one (or two) of those players would go a long way in getting New York back to the top of the NBA.
2) Which current players stay?
Head coach Derek Fisher and team president Phil Jackson used the last half of the season to bring in younger players to evaluate them for their rebuild. Guys like Langston Galloway ran with the opportunity and proved they deserve a spot in this league, while other players showed they couldn’t cut it. While it may not get the headlines, trimming the fat off the roster will be just as important for the Knicks this offseason as anything else.
3) Get everyone to buy in
This may be the hardest part of anything the Knicks have to do this offseason. New York has dealt with major chemistry issues each of the last two seasons, and the insertion of the Triangle offense was met with extreme push back. If the Knicks want to show any sort of progress this season, everyone is going to have to be on the same page.
