In Knicks rumors today, the New York Knick could be be one of the front-runners for the services of Los Angeles Lakers center Pau Gasol in free agency.
Bob Finnan of the Morning Journal believes that the Knicks at least have a shot: "Forward/center Pau Gasol might have played his last game with the Lakers. He will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. He didn’t appear to be on the same page with Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni. It has been rumored that he might join Phil Jackson in New York."
If the New York Knicks were to pursue Gasol, they would most definitely have to offer him more than the mid-level exception of $3.2 million. So, the Knicks would have to look long and hard at the pros and cons of investing major money into Gasol -- deciding whether or not he still has it in him to vault back to star status.
However, Phil Jackson's relationship with Gasol could play a pivotal role. If not, Pau reuniting with his brother Marc in Memphis could also be a possibility.
