The New York Knicks are considering cutting veteran forward Travis Outlaw, per sources cited by ESPNNewYork.com on Saturday.
Here's ESPN New York's Ian Begley with the report:
Outlaw is owed $3 million this season. If the Knicks released him, they would still owe him his full salary. They also could dump him on another team via a trade.
Getting rid of Outlaw via release would open up a roster spot for another player. There is a possibility that spot would be filled by Travis Wear.
Wear, signed by the Knicks on a non-guaranteed deal, impressed Knicks coaches and executives in both training camp and the preseason.
Cutting Outlaw to keep Wear could be read as a sign that president Phil Jackson is looking to develop young talent in the here and now, regardless of the $3 million in dead salary it would take to cut Outlaw.
Stay tuned.
