Knicks Rumors: Carmelo Anthony considering shutting down for rest of 2014-15 season

New York Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony has been troubled with left knee soreness as of late and has been advised by some of his inner circle to take some time off or, in the worst-case scenario, to sit out the remainder of the 2014-15 NBA season, per a report by NorthJersey.com's Steve Popper.

“I’ve had multiple people say kind of, just shut it down or just take time off,” Anthony said, via Popper. “At the end of the day it’s hard for me to just do that right now with what’s happening with the team. So I’m just trying to be smart about it.”

Anthony has been ruled out of Thursday's game against the Chicago Bulls, and head coach Derek Fisher is taking a wait-and-see approach going forward with him.

“We’ve got a lot of guys banged up,” Fisher said. “Amar’e (Stoudemire) will probably (rest), we’ll choose to kind of give him a space to get some recovery in tonight with back-to-back afternoon games coming up on Saturday and Sunday. So that’ll change our lineup in the front court. And Melo still has some soreness from Tuesday night and it’s kind of catching up with him, so we’ll see with him.”

Melo signed a five-year, $122 million contract with the team this past offseason and, with the team 5-22 heading into play on Thursday, the team could consider shutting him down in order to protect his health for the remaining four years of his deal while looking towards the draft/free agency this summer.
