In today's Knicks rumors and news update, the Chicago Bulls are reportedly not feeling too confident about their chances to land New York Knicks free agent Carmelo Anthony - prompting speculation that the Knicks could be in the driver's seat when it comes to retaining him on a multi-year deal.
According to ESPN's Marc Stein, the Chicago Bulls' reported trip to Los Angeles on Thursday to meet with Lakers free agent Pau Gasol could be a sign of the Bulls moving on from Melo:

With Anthony finishing up a Texas two-step of meetings with the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, followed by a flight to Los Angeles on Thursday to meet with the Lakers, the Knicks are still not out of the woods when it comes to Anthony's free agency.
However, the extra year and $34 million that the Knicks can offer Anthony on a max deal couple with Anthony's professed affinity for playing in New York could be all it takes in the end to ensure that Melo remains at Madison Square Garden for the next half-decade.
