The Knicks coaching search may be a one-man show once again, with a current NBA player dominating the New York tabloids as president Phil Jackson's new top target. Who is it? Keep reading as we present to you our Top 3 Knicks Coaching Candidates As Of May 19th:
3. Jim Cleamons
A former assistant coach of Phil Jackson who isn't getting nearly the publicity as other members of the Zen Master's coaching tree, Cleamons could be one of the safer bets available for the Knicks right now. The current Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach has a wealth of knowledge about the triangle offense, and could be the perfect company man to do Jackson's bidding on the sidelines at Madison Square Garden.
2. Kurt Rambis
As another one of Phil Jackson's former assistant coaches, there is an undeniable bond between Rambis and Jackson which the two cultivated during their time with the Lakers. Rambis has an extremely high basketball IQ, and the former Minnesota Timberwolves head coach will be able to install the triangle offense as soon as he puts the whistle around his neck. He may not be the popular choice in the Big Apple, but he could be the right one in the end.
1. Derek Fisher
Reports surfaced last night that the New York Knicks will most likely wait until Fisher is done playing in the 2014 NBA Playoffs before completely relaunching their coaching search. Is Fisher the man for the job? Phil Jackson seems to think so. Fisher's championship pedigree (five rings under Jackson in L.A.) and role as an on-court coach could make the transition into head coaching easier than some people are making it out to be. He's the new Steve Kerr in this search...for better or for worse.
