The New York Knicks made the first big splash of the offseason by trading for Derrick Rose, and they can still add another high-level free agent or two with the good deal of cap space they have. Team president Phil Jackson says the team plans to make a run at Kevin Durant, but the Knicks are definitely long shots to land him. Here are three other free agents New York can realistically sign this summer:
3) Hassan Whiteside
Whiteside is also guaranteed to be playing for someone other than Miami next year since they can't afford the massive pay increase he's going to receive on the open market, making him a perfect prospect for New York. The Knicks have plenty of cap space, and Whiteside could be the dominant defensive center they need to pair with Porzingis. There would be questions as to how the two would fit offensively, but there's no denying they'd become one of the most menacing front lines in the league.
2) Courtney Lee
New York's two biggest holes in their lineup are at center and shooting guard, and Lee is a relatively cheap option that can hold down the starting two-guard slot for the next several years. He is an athletic shooter who makes his mark on the defensive side of the ball, and would provide the Knicks with someone who loves to get out on the break.
1) Joakim Noah
Noah appears to be New York's target to replace Robin Lopez as their starting center. He has a lot on interest in joining his good friends Rose and Carmelo Anthony in the Big Apple - where he spent part of his childhood - and the Knicks have reciprocated that interest. It appears that something will get done between these two sides fairly quickly after free agency opens.
