Why Jets’ vicious QB cycle must swirl once Fitzpatrick slips up

The palpable disillusionment inside MetLifeless Stadium for Jets vs. Rams, for Case Keenum vs. Ryan Fitzpatrick, undoubtedly will be pierced sometime Sunday by the inevitable chorus of “We want Bryce,” or “We want Petty.” Or both.

Unless, of course, Jets fans get Bryce Petty on Sunday.

If Fitzpatrick is hobbled enough to be a game-time decision, then the game-time decision should be a healthy Petty.

This isn’t Super Bowl LI.

If Fitzpatrick and his knee make the game-time cut, the “We want Petty” chorus will wash down on him the second that he throws an errant pass or interception, the way it did on Geno Smith before him and Mark Sanchez before him — and truthfully, on every Jets quarterback at the end of his role since Broadway Joe.
