Why Jets lead the NFL in ignoring tight ends

When the Jets and Titans meet on Sunday, you can expect a lot of throws to the tight end … from one team.

The Jets’ tight ends have been barely visible this season. Jets tight ends have been targeted an NFL-low 19 times, according to ESPN stats, and have caught a league-low seven passes. The Titans have been the exact opposite. Tennessee has thrown to the tight end 132 times, the second-highest total in the league behind the Patriots, according to ESPN stats. They have completed a league-high 104 passes to tight ends.

Jets coach Todd Bowles said the Jets’ lack of throws to the tight ends is not about the skill of Jeff Cumberland and Kellen Davis, but just how the offense is designed.
