The Jets kept homegrown talent from getting away late Monday by signing guard Brian Winters to an extension before he could reach free agency.
The Jets did it at a reasonable price, too, retaining Winters with a four-year, $29 million deal that includes $15 million guaranteed, according to a source.
A third-round pick from Kent State in 2013, Winters said he passed up the chance to hit free agency because of loyalty he feels to the Jets.
“I’m just comfortable with decision I made,” Winters said in a conference call Tuesday. “I really like what the Jets have going here, and I wanted to be a part of it.
