Todd Bowles had a pretty simple philosophy regarding punt and kick returners when the Jets first hired him in 2015. He wouldn't keep a specialist on the 53-man roster. His returner, whoever he was, had to contribute elsewhere, too.
Antonio Cromartie, Jeremy Kerley and C.J. Spiller were among the many rotated in-and-out these last three years. And during that time, the Jets haven't scored a single return touchdown. Their unit has been among the league's worse.
So, has Bowles' designated returner methodology changed? Does he want a specialist in 2018?
"I probably do," he said in January.
