Todd Bowles wants Jets feeling heat early and often at camp

Todd Bowles wants his players to feel the heat this summer.

The new Jets coach has the team practicing at 2 p.m. every day in training camp, probably the hottest time of the day. This is a different approach than his predecessor Rex Ryan, who had his team practice in the morning during training camp.

Bowles was asked why he chose to practice in mid-afternoon.

“It’s hot,” Bowles said. “It’s not Cortland. Guys need to get in shape. Some people ran indoors all summer. You need to get in heat shape. You practice in 70 degrees and then go play in a preseason game and it’s 94 or 90 degrees, then you’re in trouble.
