Todd Bowles expressed his dissatisfaction with the Jets’ poor special teams this season by firing the unit’s two coaches. Gone are Bobby April, who spent one season in charge, and his assistant, Steve Hagen, who had previously worked with the team’s tight ends.

The Jets also fired Ron Heller, who finished his third season as the team’s assistant offensive line coach. Heller and Hagen were the lone holdovers from Rex Ryan’s coaching staff.

The changes came two days after Bowles, when asked at his season-ending news conference, said he expected his staff to remain intact.
