ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The numbers don’t lie: Jets quarterback Sam Darnold was better in his second NFL season, which concluded with Sunday’s 13-6 win over the Bills at New Era Field, than he was in his rookie year.
Yet Darnold, the third-overall pick in the 2018 draft, leaves you wanting for more. Like on Sunday against a Bills team that mixed in backup players as it rested some starters for the playoffs.
Darnold completed 23 of 36 passes for 199 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the win — respectable numbers.
But it was a poorly thrown pass to tight end Daniel Brown, who was wide open in the end zone for a certain touchdown in the first half, that dragged his performance down.
