New York Jets quarterback Bryce Petty, who underwent a CT scan Sunday on his injured chest, sustained a bruise but no lung damage, a league source confirmed Monday.
The Jets are hopeful Petty can start Saturday against the New England Patriots. On-field preparations begin Tuesday.
The NFL Network first reported Petty's test results.
Petty absorbed a crushing hit on the first play of the fourth quarter in the Jets' 34-13 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Saturday night. Cameron Wake and Ndamukong Suh were unblocked and arrived simultaneously at the second-year quarterback, sandwiching him with a front-and-back hit.
