Seahawks castoff fighting to fill Jets’ hole at running back

Thomas Rawls has been an underdog before.

The running back currently is fighting for a roster spot with the Jets. Three years ago, he was an undrafted free agent who made the Seahawks roster, then became a starter as a rookie after an injury to Marshawn Lynch.

An injury may have opened the door for Rawls again. With Elijah McGuire sidelined for the next month or more because of a broken foot, Rawls could make the Jets as their third running back.

“Eli is an amazing player. Even when he was here, I always wanted to take advantage of my opportunities,” Rawls said last week.
