FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- The New York Jets hope they have their first franchise quarterback since long before Sam Darnold was even born.
In the weeks leading up to Thursday night’s NFL draft, Darnold was projected to be the first player taken. The Jets had traded up to the No. 3 spot and he fell to them Thursday when the Cleveland Browns drafted Baker Mayfield and the New York Giants picked Saquon Barkley.
The Jets wanted Darnold, bringing him in last Wednesday, the last day prospects could do pre-draft visits.
