Sam Darnold still out for Jets for Week 5 vs. Eagles

Jets quarterback Sam Darnold will not play this Sunday against the Eagles.

Darnold is recovering from a bout of mononucleosis that resulted in an enlarged spleen and sidelined him for the past two games.

Jets coach Adam Gase said Friday morning the team tested Darnold the previous night, and he is “close but he isn’t where he needs to be.”

Darnold had taken the majority of the first-team practice reps during the week in a non-contact jersey.

With Darnold still out, Luke Falk will get his second consecutive start for the Jets as they look to avoid slipping to 0-4.
