Sam Darnold loses boot but doesn’t gain much clarity

Todd Bowles will be back for the Jets’ next game (home against the Patriots), but the coach doesn’t yet know whether Sam Darnold will be watching from the sideline, too.

Bowles confirmed Monday that the rookie quarterback — who suffered a strained foot against the Dolphins on Nov. 4 — is no longer wearing a walking boot, but Darnold’s first meeting against Tom Brady and Bill Belichick may not come until the regular-season finale in New England.

“It’s still early for him,” Bowles said. “We’ll see how it goes through the bye week and how it looks next week.
