The Jets got hit with a blow to their defensive and special teams depth with safety Rontez Miles having to undergo surgery on a torn meniscus, according to a source.
Miles is expected to miss several months. The hope is that he could return midway through the season. Miles was the Jets’ third safety last year behind Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye. Miles is the longest-tenured defensive player on the Jets, joining the team in 2013.
This is a bigger blow to the Jets’ special teams unit than the defense. Miles is one of the Jets’ best special teams players.
