Bob Sutton is predictably out, fired two days after his defense collapsed in an AFC Championship game loss to the Patriots. His potential replacement isn’t nearly as predictable.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported former Jets and Bills coach Rex Ryan is a name to watch for to replace Sutton, and he has been approached by other teams in past offseasons about defensive coordinator openings. Ryan has been Schefter’s colleague at ESPN since parting way with the Bills two seasons ago.
Ryan, who served as the Bengals (1996-97), Chiefs (1999) and Ravens (2005-08) defensive coordinator in the past, didn’t dismiss the possibility of returning to the NFL as a defensive coordinator when asked at this time last year.
