The NFL understandably is sensitive to the light shed on what it has known about degenerative brain disease and when it knew it in the movie “Concussion,” which premieres Christmas Day.
The league’s rush to make the game safer for its players was too little, too late for 49ers linebacker Chris Borland, who retired before this season at 24; is too little, too late for parents who already have decided to steer their children to other sports.
There always will be a big enough pool of young men who will choose to play for the love of the game and for the love of money and fame and championships.
