NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The Jets could soon have a crowded backfield.
According to the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, New York intends to sign former Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars running back Bernard Pierce.
A former third-round pick out of Temple in 2012, Pierce is a bruiser with speed who will likely offer insurance at least through training camp as backups Zac Stacy and Khiry Robinson work their way back from their respective ankle and leg injuries.
The Jets’ starting backfield figures to showcase veterans Matt Forte and Bilal Powell. Robinson is expected to be the third back, so with an impressive camp Pierce could challenge Stacy for a regular season roster spot.
