Patriots’ Tom Brady Denies Tampering in Released Testimony

New England quarterback Tom Brady denied under oath to N.F.L Commissioner Roger Goodell that he tampered with footballs before the A.F.C. championship game in January, and the investigator Ted Wells testified that he had never warned Brady that he would be punished if he did not turn over his cellphone.

In a transcript released Tuesday in a filing by the N.F.L. players’ union, Brady maintained his innocence in the case involving deflated footballs. He denied discussing air level with the ball boys or even thinking about how inflated the footballs were when he selected them.
