NY Jets’ rival Patriots hire Jerod Mayo as new head coach

After the end of a long, long era for New York Jets fans, the New England Patriots are hoping to begin another. Only a few days after the Jets broke their 15-game losing streak to Bill Belichick and the Patriots, New England hired a new head coach that it hopes can continue tormenting New York.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, linebackers coach Jerod Mayo will be promoted to replace Belichick. Mayo has been the Patriots’ right-hand man to Belichick for several years. While he was never the defensive coordinator in name, he essentially ran the defense alongside Steve Belichick over the past few years.
