The NY Jets have kicked off the re-signing period by inking veteran backup tight end Daniel Brown to a one-year contract extension through the 2020 season.
It likely isn’t the name that many were hoping to hear, but the re-signing does serve a purpose.
Brown served a key role on the Jets’ special teams last year playing in all 16 games — one of only 11 players to do so — while also seeing limited time on offense in three tight end sets.
The 27-year-old played on a team-high 68 percent of special teams snaps which was far and away the highest on the team.
