The New York Jets’ moves in the 2024 offseason largely hinted that the offensive coaching staff was planning to switch from a zone-blocking run scheme to a gap-blocking one.
Firstly, the Jets added two burly, mauling offensive linemen who hailed from one of the NFL’s most gap-heavy blocking schemes in Baltimore: left guard John Simpson and right tackle Morgan Moses. They also added left tackle Tyron Smith, whose skill set made him a better fit for a gap scheme.
