Nonsense on the field begets nonsense from the TV booth

I don’t want to be a fly on the wall. I want to be the bee in their bonnets. What were they just thinking? That, even beyond ESPN’s Rubber Booger Buggy, would be the ultimate in interactive TV.

There was 8:56 left in Sunday’s third quarter. The Jets, about to finish 4-12, were down 28-3 to the Pats when Jets’ WR Deontay Burnett caught a short pass for a first down.

Rather than bolt back to the huddle or check to see if his team might be in hurry-up, Burnett rose and majestically stepped downfield, triumphantly raising the ball above his head, making like Marc Gastineau demonstrating his unconditional self-affection.
