INDIANAPOLIS -- The Jets got a big boost with their salary cap space Wednesday, when running back Matt Forte retired and defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson was cut.
Forte probably would've been cut if he didn't retire, and Wilkerson was a sure-thing cut, so neither move was a surprise.
The Jets entered Wednesday with $77.019 million in salary cap space (second-most in the NFL), according to overthecap.com's estimate, which is based on a projected $178 million team cap. The Browns entered Wednesday at $109.494 million.
You can add $14 million to the Jets' number -- bringing it to $91.
