New York Jets release OL Spencer Long

The New York Jets have released offensive lineman Spencer Long. The team announced the transaction on Tuesday afternoon.

Long, 28, is released after one season with the Jets. He was signed to a four-year, $28 million deal last March. Formerly of the Washington Redskins, Long began the year at center for the Jets. However, struggles with the snap prompted a transfer to left guard, where he spent the remainder of the season. Long’s woes were particularly on display in a November game in Miami, botching several shotgun snaps.

Pro Football Focus ranked him the 37th best center in the league.
