New York Jets Release Marcus Gilchrist, Re-Sign Bruce Carter

The New York Jets released safety Marcus Gilchrist on Thursday.

Gilchrist’s future with the Jets was up in the air after he had surgery in December to fix a torn tendon in his right knee. Last week, the Jets drafted Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye and that sealed the safety’s fate.

“We like Marcus Gilchrist, but it was tough with the injuries,” Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said in an interview with SiriusXM NFL radio. “We wish him well in the future.”

Gilchrist signed with Gang Green as a free agent in 2015.
