Last Sunday, Oakland Raiders linebacker Vontaze Burfict was ejected in the second quarter of a game against the Indianapolis Colts. Burfict initiated a helmet-to-helmet hit on Colts tight end Jack Doyle, one that forced the refs to make an “unnecessary roughness” call. The veteran linebacker then seemed to laugh as he entered the locker room.
This week, the NFL decided to suspend Burfict for the rest of the season. Last Sunday’s ejection wasn’t the only time Burfict has had an issue with illegal hits. He served suspensions during the 2016 and 2017 seasons due to repeated violations of player safety rules.
