Last season, the New York Jets defense was supposed to be the team’s strong point. That, however, didn’t turn out to be the case, as the unit was wildly inconsistent throughout much of the season.
That, along with many other reasons, led ownership to, for the most part, completely rearrange the coaching staff.
When Adam Gase was named as the team’s new head coach, however, many of the questions regarding the defense remained given Gase’s reputation as an offensive specialist. It’s why Gase famously said that he would be looking to bring in a “head coach” of the defense to handle things on that side of the ball.
