New turf at MetLife Stadium gets positive reviews from Giants, Jets

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The new playing surface at MetLife Stadium is receiving positive reviews after the New York Giants and New York Jets played on it for the first time last weekend.

A new FieldTurf core system was installed earlier this year. The immediate sentiment was that it appeared to offer a softer, more forgiving feel than the previous synthetic turf that drew significant criticism over the past few seasons.

“I’m a fan of grass, for sure. Got to admit that. I like wearing seven studs and playing on grass, but I feel like the field -- it’s supposedly the newest and the greatest,” said Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who warmed up on the turf but didn’t play in the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
