The Mets have not often played this late into October in their history. They won the 1969 World Series on Oct. 16, one calendar date before they began the 2015 NLCS.
That helps explain a New York sports quirk that will unfold on Sunday:
For only the second time ever, according to STATS, the Mets, Jets and Rangers all will play home games on the same day, with the Mets hosting the Cubs, the Jets the Redskins and the Rangers the Devils.
The only other time was Oct. 17, 1999, when the Mets hosted the Braves in Game 5 of the NLCS, the Jets hosted the Colts and the Rangers hosted the Thrashers.
