Sheldon Richardson’s sad choices this offseason have given the Jets reason to wonder whether he can be fully trusted ever again.
Less than one hour after Richardson expressed contrition over his four-game suspension for repeated marijuana use and promised never to make the wrong headlines again, news surfaced of a bizarre two-week-old arrest in Missouri that the organization was unaware of and will likely keep him on the sidelines longer this season.
Richardson was charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest and multiple traffic violations stemming from a July 14 incident in O’Fallon, Mo. His failure to disclose the arrest to the Jets reflects the type of poor judgment that simply cannot be explained away and prompts questions about his long-term viability with the team.
