Mehta: Jets better with Revis, but his glory days are over

There’s nothing sadder in sports than watching greatness disappear. Sometimes it vanishes in the blink of an eye. Sometimes it winds through a painful set of stages. Greatness never lasts forever.

Darrelle Revis will return Sunday against the Titans after suffering a concussion nearly three weeks ago in Houston to help the Jets make a December push for the playoffs. He is still his team’s best cornerback and one of the Top 10 in the league but his greatness is fading.

Very good wide receivers still get lost on Revis Island. The notion that the magic has worn off against the elite pass catchers, however, is blasphemous to supporters, but the eyes reveal the truth.
