EAST RUTHERFORD -- It was surely in the back of coach Todd Bowles' mind. How could it not be? Trailing the Patriots by seven with 1:53 left in the fourth quarter, the Jets could certainly use their full complement of timeouts.
One issue: They had just one left. Because on their first drive of the third quarter, they wasted two on formation alignment errors. Without the ability to stop the clock, their comeback attempt fell short. New England won, 24-17.
It was alarming, largely because premature timeout blunders are becoming a Sunday tradition for the Jets.
