Lucky Whitehead Claimed by Jets After Mistaken-Identity Saga

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — The Jets claimed wide receiver/kick returner Lucky Whitehead on Wednesday, two days after the Dallas Cowboys cut him following a shoplifting charge in what turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.

A man used Whitehead’s identity to steal $40 worth of food and drink from a convenience store in Virginia last month. Dallas released him Monday after reports that Whitehead had been arrested and subsequently cited for missing a court hearing. After the Prince William County Police said they had concluded that the person who had been arrested was not Whitehead, the Cowboys still did not bring him back.
