Le’Veon Bell’s lingering illness brings Jets backfield uncertainty

Le’Veon Bell was sent home from the Jets’ facility Friday after he was deemed too ill to practice for the second consecutive day.

If the Jets are without their $52.5 million running back Sunday against Miami, Bilal Powell and Ty Montgomery likely would share the load out of the backfield.

“I don’t know. They just said it was an illness. He’s sick,” coach Adam Gase said of Bell, who has averaged a career-low 3.2 yards per carry this season, his first with the team. “It’s probably the same thing that’s going on with a lot of these other teams.
