Kelechi Osemele was benched for his inability to slow down opposing pass rushers, but the veteran guard is standing his ground against the Jets.
Speaking candidly after practice Wednesday, Osemele said he traveled to Boston on Tuesday to receive a third opinion regarding the torn labrum in his right shoulder. The doctor, Osemele said, confirmed he needs surgery.
The first two doctors, which included the Jets’ doctor, also told him he needs surgery, according to Osemele. But the team has not approved it. And a source disputed Osemele’s story, saying the doctors told Osemele he can play through the injury and get the labrum tear repaired after the season.
