SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Maybe, just maybe, the New York Jets have something in Bryce Petty. This much we know: The kid is tough, mentally and physically.
The second-year quarterback passed the first test in his four-game audition, rallying from a nightmarish start -- an interception on his first pass. Petty overcame his early yips and sparked the moribund Jets to 23-17 overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Levi's Stadium.
Wow.
The Jets (4-9) appeared lifeless after a brutal first half -- they trailed, 17-3 -- but they scored on their final two possessions in regulation and they won it in overtime on a 19-yard touchdown run by Bilal Powell with 8:35 left, snapping a four-game losing streak.
